Why Do You Feel Threatened By Gay Marriage?
By Joseph Perce
Does the thought of two people who are gay getting married threaten you? I'm straight. I do not feel threatened if two people who are gay decide to marry. Do you?
Our country is trillions of dollars in debt, bogged down in two wars, and facing rising gasoline and food prices. Instead of being up in arms about these issues, some people are clearly upset about the fact that somewhere, somehow, gay people have been allowed to marry.
What about this is upsetting to some people? Public displays of affection? To that, my response is that, as a straight person, I find excessive straight public displays of affection equally uncomfortable.
What is the other argument? That our country has somehow become immoral because of it? Please. If you want to talk immorality, let's talk about going to war based on lies, resulting in the deaths of hundreds of thousands.
If we want to deal with immorality, how about we take a close look at our foreign policy first? Perhaps we should be more concerned more with why we bomb, rather than why we let gays marry?
