Op-Ed: What Makes An Ideal Leader
Let us for a moment take an imaginary trip to a Perfect Utopian Society and examine the qualifications the Ideal Leader would have. Chances are that this would be the case in the real world are less than seeing pigs flying, or lipstick on a pig for that matter, but nevertheless, let us make this hypothetical journey.

An Ideal Leader Would:
1. Put the interests of his or her country before the interests of any other country. This means, prior to sending billions in aid to countries most Americans couldn't find on the map, use those billions to improve the health, educational, and social standards for Americans here at home.
2. Speak the truth to the American People. I know what you're thinking - "Good luck with this one!". Truth is essential. If you screwed up, you screwed up - Say so. You thought there were Weapons of Mass Destruction, and there weren't. Say sorry and accept responsibility. You believed the economy was sound, when in fact it is in deep trouble, say so.
3. Reinforce the spoken truth with concrete actions. Talk is cheap! I can site a whole number of cliches here: Money talks, bullshit walks; The buck stops here; Talk the talk, then walk the walk - You get the idea. The Ideal Leader would not just spout a bunch of BS, but would follow through with making these thoughts a reality. "When I get elected... I promise to.." - How many times have you heard this preamble to some promise you know will never get fulfilled? How about instead of the future-indefinite, a concrete series of steps to make things happen?
4. Would never depend on any foreign country or entity for the security, welfare, or energy needs to this nation. That means pooling together the brilliant minds this country has and coming up with a workable, money generating, energy independence infrastructure that would not only get us off of foreign oil dependence, but also create jobs for millions of Americans. There's energy all around us, yet not a courageous leader to break the yolks of multinational oil conglomerate interests to harness it.
5. Last but not least, cut the political-speak. Speak in plain terms that people can understand. In keeping with #3 above, speak truthfully, then follow through with concrete actions. Ever been fascinated by Quantum Physics, for example, and read one fo the layman's books that could explain it to you in terms that were not only easy to understand but fascianting as well? The Ideal Leader needs to be able to communicate to people in clear, yet simple, terminology. Don't talk down to people, but don't use that disgusting politicalspeak we are so used to hearing and so fed up with.
Yes, I know - This is just a Utopian Pipedream. Perhaps though, one day it won't be. I don't have much hope, but here's to wishful thinking.
