We or Me?
In general, is it true that Liberals are “we” people and Conservatives are “me” people?
by Sam Worcester
When you breakdown the logic behind a Liberal person's argument on any subject, they base the correctness of their argument upon what is best for the whole of "mankind". Conservatives, on the other hand, base the correctness of their argument upon what is best for the individual. Both sides can make good cases. The conservative logic of "me first" may sound bad to a liberal, but is that only because a liberal is a "we first" person?
Conservatives want to perfect the individual before doing anything else and they tend to think that, "If I am capable of making myself perfect, then everyone else in the world is capable of doing the same. So, buck-up and fix yourself and don’t come whining to me for help. Be perfect like me and if you get into a bind I will help you if I think you are worthy." Liberals tend to want to help others no matter what the other person is like. Liberals approach problems as if "we are all in this together".
This difference in views makes it impossible for a conservative to agree with the logic of a liberal person and vis versa. And a "we person" will never agree with the logic of a "me person" and vis versa.
FYI: Politicians don’t count. A person may have joined the Republican Party because they were a "me person", but once in, they are only a Republican; same for Democrats. Politicians are all about the party not about principles. There is no logic behind a politician’s actions other than to help the party. The proof of this is the Republican’s screaming about all the spending in the stimulus package being irresponsible. The same idiots had no problem throwing billions of dollars to the Middle-East wars. Even when billions of dollars went missing, they shrugged it off. Why was it ok for Republicans to spend in Iraq, but not on American’s in a stimulus plan? The war was a Republican idea; the stimulus plan is a Democratic plan. So, Republican plan "good", Democratic plan "bad". There is no "me" versus "we" principled-logic behind the Republican’s actions. They are all about the Party.
Think about it when talking to a conservative. See how they frame their arguments around what is best for the individual.
