An ominous feeling of deja-vu is starting to resonate throughout the media once again. The drums of war appear to play in the distance. This time, it is not Iraq that is the goal. The talk of "not ruling out a strike against Iran" hangs in the air.

There are voices speaking out against this potential inevitability, however. No, these are not the voices of such organizations as MoveOn.Org. These are the voices of Lt Gen Robert Gard, a former military assistant to the US defence secretary and Gen Joseph Hoar, a former commander-in-chief, US Central Command.

According to these two ex military men, an attack upon Iran would have "disastrous consequences" not only for the security situation in the Middle East, but also for the men in uniform currently stationed in Iraq.

This statement by the two generals makes a great deal of sense if you take a look at the current situation in the Middle East. Our men and women in uniform currently in Iraq rely on a major logistics operation to bring them the supplies they need to conduct the war and to stay safe. In the event of a war with Iran, it is almost certain that Iran, utilizing its advanced weaponry (e.g. The Russian-made Sunburn missile, aka the "Aircraft Carrier Killer") will target US naval forces stationed in the Gulf.

The question we need to ask - Is the US prepared to lose one or more of its high value battleships or possibly an air craft carrier? This is a possible consequence of any military action against Iran.

Perhaps it is time for those in power to take the words of individuals like these two ex-generals, who quite possibly know the situation much better.
