I'm sure I'm not the only male in America who, when Palin dropped her first wink, sat up a little straighter on the couch and said, "Hey, I think she just winked at me." And her smile. By the end, when she clearly knew she was doing well, it was so sparkling it was almost mesmerizing. It sent little starbursts through the screen and ricocheting around the living rooms of America. This is a quality that can't be learned; it's either something you have or you don't, and man, she's got it. - Rich Lowry, National Review Online.

PB Commentary:

If you want to know why the country is in the state it is you need look no further than the National Review; that bastion of conservative ideology. They don't seem to care about substance. They don't seem to care about qualifications or policy knowledge, leadership ability, or a command of the issues. He's willing to to choose his leader based on a wink of the eye. If Stalin gave him a little smile and a pinch on the ass I guess he'd be in favor of him too. At some point doesn't the nation need to choose a leader based on ability?
