Political Doublespeak And Dishonesty A Disgrace

There once lived a Greek philosopher, Diogenes of Sinope, who is known, among other things, to have walked around in the daylight with a lantern. When asked what he was doing, he replied, "Looking for an honest man, yet finding nothing but rascals and scoundrels". You would think by hearing this account that Diogenes was taking a stroll down 1600 Pennsylvania Ave. The truth of the matter is, politicians were guilty of doublespeak and dishonesty then, and even more so now.

Perhaps there is no better representation of what it is to be a politician than Scott McClellan. Scott, if you were so concerned about the Bush Administration using false information to start the Iraq war, why did you not step up then? Where was your dignity, courage and loyalty to the American people then? Coming out now with your book, expounding on how the Bush Administration was guilty of what many of us knew from day one is not going to absolve you of your complicity, nor wash away your sins.

It is true the saying - The rats are the first to leave a sinking ship. But Scott, it is too late to distance yourself from the Bush Administration. You walked in lockstep with them; You used your doublespeak and dishonesty to sway the American public for them. The result has been a grossly miscalculated war, resulting in tens of thousands of deaths and billions of dollars lost.

So what do you want, Scott? Forgiveness? Understanding? You will get neither. When it was time to step forward and speak out against what the Bush Administration was doing, you were not only silent but actually encouraging the march towards war.

I have an idea, Mr. McClellan. Why don't you meet face to face with the families who lost their sons and daughters to this war and try to explain to them how wrong the Bush Administration was for going to war - While you sat there encouraging public opinion that going to war was the right thing to do.

Political dishonesty and doublespeak - Tell them what an administration wants them to hear, then hope American Idol drowns out any dissent. Diogenes, the Greek philosopher, might perhaps find an honest man today. Just tell him not to walk anywhere near 1600 Pennsylvania Ave in Washington D.C.
