From "Pioneers take the arrows: CPAC speakers now free to talk failure," February 19, 2010 Rush Limbaugh show:
"You [Rick Klein of ABC News] ought to be mad, you ought to be leading the anger, look at what's being done to this country. Conservatives are uniting over ideas. They are uniting over ideas, Mr. Klein, not people, and not anger, but fear! There is a fear of what is going to happen to this country if this stuff isn't politically stopped. That's all that's motivating these people. Our friends on the left will never, ever understand this no matter how open and honest I am in telling them." http://www.rushlimbaugh.com/home/daily/site_021910/content/01125111.guest.html.
Was there ever a time that a conservative didn't fear someone or something? Even if Dick Cheney was in charge of the US as dictator for life and every liberal on the planet was dead, conservatives would still find a reason to live in a constant state of fear. Even if all other nations were disarmed and left with not so much as a pea shooter conservatives would live in mortal fear that the US doesn't have a big enough nuclear arsenal.
There is no cure for the fear that grips conservatives. This fear comes from the soul of the conservative. Conservatives are not at peace and are incapable of being at peace. They are in a constant state of war and they demand that the US be kept in a constant state of war as well. They treat Congress as a battlefield where compromise is viewed as a failure to fight.
Conservatives put self first and see nothing wrong with living in total fear that they might not get their selfish way. Fighting and killing to get what one wants seems perfectly acceptable to a conservative because living for self is the only cause worth dying for.
Rush Limbaugh and the rest of the conservatives are in total fear of what is happening to the economy even though the policies that they support lead directly to our economic collapse. When the main issue was the torturing of prisoners and illegally invading countries and bombing and killing innocent civilians in these countries the conservatives could not have cared less. Sacrificing "quaint" principles such as "doing unto others as we would have them do unto us" struck not a shred of fear into the heart of Rush or his conservative "Ditto-heads." But try to dismantle the conservative policies that put us in our current economic straight jacket and conservatives scream out, "I’M TAXED ENOUGH ALREADY". Try to stop spending on the military, the biggest part of our taxes, and conservatives will scream, "DON’T STOP MILITARY SPENDING!"
Maybe if every school in the US was turned into a military school, conservatives might support spending money on schools. I can't think of anything that would appease a conservative into allowing universal healthcare. They simply see no use for any program that helps people in general as opposed to helping themselves, the individual. After all, this is the nation that puts "rugged individualism" (self) first. Conservatives fear anything and everything that prevents them from putting self first.
