The Republican Refusal to Participate in Congress is Nothing New
(03-01-2010)

Conservatives are holding their breath like spoiled children until they get their way the same as they did just before they seceded from the Union in 1860. Do we give the babies their bottle or do we stand-up to them until they walk out of the Union again? Will anybody miss them if they do go?

Iraq Shoe Throwing Incident Highlights Dissatisfaction of Iraqi Public
(12-19-2008)

The unfortunate chain of events that were set into motion during the March of 2003 have culminated in this indignant act, perpetrated by a disgruntled Iraqi journalist against the outgoing president of the United States - An act that symbolizes the level of contempt that is felt against the US and the Bush Administration in the Middle East. So this begs a question - Why are we there?    more...

Political Bull - Political Ideas about the world we inhabit The True Connections that lead to the 2003 Invasion of Iraq
(09-07-2008)

The reasons for launching the U.S. invasion of Iraq have been cloaked in suspicion, conspiracy and misread intelligence. The most patriotic of Americans choose the misread intelligence theory while championing the byproduct goals of removing Saddam Hussein from power. The most skeptical usually lean on the war for oil theory. In a strange sense there is a possibility that both have some truth within them yet neither adequately puts all the pieces together because they leave out one major component: 9/11 and the political strategy for avoiding further attacks. For the first time we put all the facts together in their proper sequence to help explain and understand the real reason for the invasion of Iraq.    more...

Pursuing Renewable Energy Will Create Jobs And Get Us Off Of Oil

Renewable energy is the path that would create tens of thousands of jobs at home while reducing the dependence on foreign oil and unstable foreign governments. As it stands the renewable energy jobs sector is already in itself a growing industry. However will it be enough to be the single stone to bring two birds (dwindling employment rate and rising dependence on oil) down? Here is how..

Ways To Simplify

I have set up this site to write about ways to simplify some of the complexities of life and by doing so, providing for a much happier existence here on earth. Often times, we strive for material goals and sacrifice enjoying life and being in the moment as a result. I have learned that it is better to slow down a little bit and enjoy life more. more...

Op-Ed: Trickling down to nothing
(09-16-2008)

Where will American citizens draw the line on the damage caused by trickle-down economics? We have already lost the 1950's style middle-class family with the stay-at-home-mom to Republican deregulation. Do we have to bring back child labor before the American citizen starts making the connection that what is good for corporations is not good for the citizens? Will the American citizens ever make the connection that a vote for a Republican is a vote against the 1950's style middle-class economy? A Republican vote is: a vote against the individual, a vote against the family, a vote in favor of deregulated-corporations free to run amuck as they have done these past eight years with ever increasing carnage.    more...

The Old Colonial Mindset Still Clouds the West in dealing with Georgia and Russia
(08-27-2008)

It appears Western political thought is stuck in the colonial mindset of the 19th and early 20th century. This is the mindset that divides borders between states based on natural landmarks and sometimes arbitrary dividing lines that completely ignore local ethnic distinctions.    more...

The Problem of God and Atheism
(09-04-2008)

When two Automobiles collide in an intersection there are a number of explanations for the accident posed by the participants and observers. Each individual may develop his own conclusion about the true cause of the accident. The conclusions can be based on observation, on a scientific investigation of the evidence, on past assumptions and even prejudices about they type of people or automobiles that entered the intersection. All of the conclusions can be right and all can be wrong. Ultimately; however, there was a true cause for the accident. It just may not be possible to know it from the observation point of the human inquirer.    more...

Bush the Pathetic
(10-17-2008)

Op-Ed: It is well recognized that term limits on the U.S Presidency create a lame duck status for the President beginning on his second inauguration. This status gets cranked up in the final year of a president's term but no one exemplifies the lame duck status more than George W. Bush.    more...

The Right Wing Approach to Solving Wall Street Woes: Less Transparency
(10-03-2008)

With the recent turmoil in the financial markets some economists and politicians are blaming an accounting rule for the stock market volatility. Known as "mark-to-market" or "fair value accounting," it is basically an accounting method that values assets at their current market value. A stock, option, mortgage, or other asset in an investment portfolio must be valued at the price it closes at during the day's trading. The assertion is that this accounting procedure causes an overvaluing of assets in a boom and an undervaluing of assets in a market downturn. This leads to both bubbles and bursting bubbles. This assertion is a smokescreen and the proposed solution is atrocious.    more...

Time to snuff out religious stupidity in all its stupid forms.
(12-05-2008)

When is the Muslim world going to step up and stop the religious fools who are harming their religion? Same goes for the USA: when are we going to stamp out fundamentalism? How many bombs must explode before the sane people around the world start teaching peace to our "eye-for-an-eye" relatives and friends?    more...

Republicans Need Their Version Of Obama
(11-11-2008)

Dr. Ross -
It seems to me that in order for the Republicans to have any hopes of maintaining any sort of relevance in 2012 and beyond, they themselves will need to bring about "Change they (And all of their supporters) can believe in". Let me explain what I mean by this:    more...

Yankee go home Commentary: Group of 20 summit will be stage for Wall Street bashing
(03-31-2009)
The panic in Detroit, however, was just foreshadowing of the smackdown that's coming Tuesday in London when President Obama joins angry heads of state for the Group of 20 summit. Obama is about to face a gang of 19 dubiously furious at what they see as the United States' lead role in the world's economic crisis.    more...

Soros: The Recession Will Last Forever
(03-30-2009)
Lotsa pressure on world leaders to save the world when they meet at the G20 next week.

Given the lack of consensus about how to fix the economy, and the fact that various countries have different priorities, it seems like a long shot that they'll agree on anything -- or that if they do agree on something, that it'll happen to be the silver bullet.    more...

Dow jumps as Obama admin. moves on bad bank assets
(03-23-2009)
The Obama administration aimed squarely at the crisis clogging the nation's credit system Monday with a plan to take over up to $1 trillion in sour mortgage securities with the help of private investors. For once, Wall Street cheered. The announcement, closely stage-managed throughout the day, filled in crucial blanks in the administration's financial rescue package and formed what President Barack Obama called "one more critical element in our recovery."    more...

The United States Of Ponzi
(03-19-2009)
By: Nouriel Roubini

"I am a reporter, and I am doing a story on Bernard Madoff's life after pleading guilty. As part of this, I was wondering if you could comment on what significance he will have in the history of this period. Will he represent more than a scamster who stole a lot of money from a lot of people? As Bernie Ebbers and Ken Lay came to embody corporate greed and deceit, what will Madoff symbolize?"    more...

Don't Count On A Consumer-Led Recovery
(03-16-2009)
There's growing concern in some circles that the President's economic policies are confusing massive stimulus with Big Government and will thus deliver a muted recovery in the next year.

Furthermore, with many measures colored by what some consider a social reform agenda--which may have some humanitarian merit--the wealth of initiatives is not pro-growth enough.    more...

We said it only last week so the media is catching up to us.  They used to be months behind.

Media's guide to economic stupidity
(03-15-2009)
Watching the national news media struggle to cover the economic crisis lately, one could be forgiven the fear that the United States had grown too ignorant and lazy to govern itself. Between mis- and disinformation, cheap political posturing and crowd-pleasing histrionics masquerading as commentary, the public has been inundated by a flood of dangerous nonsense. Cable news networks must think their audiences have the attention span of fruit flies.    more...

Jon Stewart: International Hero?
(03-15-2009)
The Editorial from tomorrow's London Observer is quite at odds with the reaction of the American media to Mr. Stewart's program. The reactions of the rporters on the Friday PBS News Hour as well as Howard Kurtz's insipid column in the Washington Post are rather typical it appears. The media line is that they did run stories but no one paid attention. Little Howie alleges that the Post did report on the growing scandal. It is true that he can point to a few stories here and there, BUT if the Post had put half the effort into the development of the governmental actions which led to the crash it put into Watergate (and taken half the heat Ms. Graham did then), then we may not be in the fix we are in.    more...
